More About Us – Interartes | Our Philosophy, Values and Artistic Vision

About Us

Interartes was founded in Cascais in 2005, born from a shared dream: to create a school where music could be taught with passion, rigour and authenticity. The project emerged from the vision of guitarist and educator Jorge Lee, who imagined a place where music education and music-technology practice could be experienced in a creative, human and truly professional way. Alongside Jorge was his wife, Helena Lee, who from the very start ensured administrative and financial coordination, providing consistency and balance for the school's growth.

From the very beginning, this vision was strengthened by Cícero Lee and Miguel Marques, both present at the school's foundation and essential in shaping its identity.
Cícero Lee, an experienced musician, contributed his extensive knowledge of the Portuguese music scene, his collaborative spirit and his commitment to teaching.
Miguel Marques, then a student of Jorge Lee, played a decisive role in building Interartes' technical structure, implementing innovative standards and workflows in music-technology practice — elements that would become a fundamental part of the school's pedagogical and operational DNA.

Interartes was born as a family-rooted and collaborative project.

Other students and friends soon joined this founding nucleus; their help and dedication were instrumental in launching the school. It would be impossible to name everyone who contributed, but the energy and enthusiasm of that first team left an indelible mark that continues to be felt today.

Over the years, Interartes has grown without losing the spirit that inspired its beginning.
Its facilities have expanded and modernised — today, the school has eleven soundproofed and climate-controlled classrooms and rehearsal rooms, a professional recording studio and high-quality technical equipment, offering students a real experience of musical practice and direct contact with the artistic environment.

Interartes' pedagogical philosophy is based on the belief that every student is unique and deserves personalised guidance — just as every musical piece has its own identity.
From early musical initiation to advanced instrumental studies, each pathway is designed to balance technical development with artistic expression, theory with practice and individual study with collective experience.

The school offers a wide range of instruments — guitar, piano, drums, bass, bowed strings, voice and more — and includes complementary subjects such as music theory, writing, improvisation, audio production and ensemble playing.
This integrated approach provides a complete education, tailored to each student's goals, whether they seek a recreational experience or preparation for a professional path.

More than a learning space, Interartes is a community of musicians, teachers and families.
Many of the first students eventually became teachers or collaborators, continuing the spirit of support and continuity that has always defined the school.

Recitals, concerts, workshops and recording projects are key elements of Interartes' life, serving as moments of sharing, discovery and artistic growth.

Today, with an experienced team and an active community, Interartes proudly combines a family-centred ethos with pedagogical excellence and technological innovation.
It remains faithful to its mission of shaping complete, creative and thoughtful musicians, capable of understanding music as a universal and transformative language.

The history of Interartes is built on dedication, friendship and a profound love for the arts.
More than teaching, the school strives to inspire — the foundation of its motto:
"Imagine · Improve · Inspire" — imagining new possibilities, improving with commitment and inspiring through music.

Since 2005, this has been Interartes' path — a journey of family, community and music — and with the same enthusiasm, it continues to build its future every day.
